Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments

Do I need an appointment to view bridal collection?
Yes, Layne Corban operates by private appointment only. Please call 301-577-4644 or 202-722-4705 to schedule your appointment..

How long should I allow for an appointment?
Initially, an hour and half is sufficient. It allows enough time to view many styles without overwhelming you.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. We suggest you bring someone whose opinion you value. It is important to include the person who will be paying for the purchase. Remember, too many people means conflicting opinions and confusion.

How can I try-on or see the garments before I order?
We do carry samples of every style in our line but we do not carry samples of every size; we usually only have size 8 for trying on. During your appointment, we will do our best to temporarily alter the fit of each gown by clipping, adjusting, or extending to suggest the appropriate fit that you can expect once a gown is customized for you.  We can also show each style on a dress form if necessary.

Ordering

How far in advance do I need to order?
We suggest ordering 6 months prior to your wear date. To allow for shipping/production delays, as well as leaving plenty of time for alterations and valuable peace of mind.

How long does it take for my garment to arrive?
Usually, Wedding apparel usually takes 16-18 weeks for delivery. F or your convenience we also offer rush orders, additional charges will apply.

Do you handle rush orders?
Yes. Rush orders can be accommodated but will require an additional service fee. Rush cuts can save 4 to 6 weeks on delivery. Rush orders are not allowed on garments with changes (design, fabric, and custom sizing).

How can I check the status of my order?
We notify our customers by email at various points of the ordering process. We suggest referring to these emails first regarding your order status. If you need additional information, we welcome you to contact us for assistance.

How long do I have to pick up my garment after it comes in? What if I live out of town?

Fabrics & Colors

What types of fabrics are used for your garments?
Our collection is made from 100% natural silk.

Can I order the garment in a different fabric?
Occasionally. Silk fabrics choices are Satin, Crepe, Heavy Charmeuse, Chiffon, Georgette, Shantung , Doupioni, or Taffeta.

Do your styles come in colors other than what is pictured?
Diamond White is the standard color for all styles. Diamond White (off-white) is the natural color of silk. Some styles are also available in White and Ivory depending upon fabric and trim .

How can I obtain a swatch?
While we are happy to provide you with fabric swatches to allow you to see the color and texture of the fabric, please be advised that the color of the finished garment may differ slightly from the swatches due to different dye lots.

Style & Size

How do I find out what size a particular style is available in?
All Layne Corban styles are exclusively available in sizes 4-18. We do offer an Extra Size service for an additional cost if your measurements fall outside our size chart - which incurs an Extra Size service fee.

How do I know what size is right for me?
Our garments are made to standard sizes and ordered by size only. Please use our standard size chart to determine your correct size. Layne Corban recommends that all measurements be taken by a professional seamstress or tailor to ensure best fit. If your measurements fall between standard sizes, w e suggest ordering a size based on the largest measurement; however, the size chosen is ultimately your decision. S ize chart is a guideline only, alterations may still be needed.

Why am I ordering a size 2 sizes BIGGER than my normal size?
Don't panic! Bridal apparel is cut according to a couture size chart and run smaller than the ready to wear clothing you buy at the mall. Most brides must order sizes larger than they usually wear, and that is normal.

Is there a standard length?
Rule of thumb is if you are 5'8 inches or taller while wearing heels, you should order extra length - which incurs an Extra Length service fee.

What styles are most flattering?
We go to great lengths to make sure our styles look good on all body types. Within our collection, you'll find a wide variety of silhouettes from full ball gowns, modern A-lines, and slim sheaths that look magnificent and are easy to wear.
